Content shared online may be easily duplicated and spread.
As in face-to-face conversations, messages, pictures and videos shared on LINE cannot be deleted as a general rule.
It is therefore important to check who you are talking to and who is in the Group before posting.

Can I share this information?

Sharing pictures and movies carelessly can cause trouble

Share only messages, pictures and videos that will not bring harm to you or others if they are spread widely. Also, even if you think it is OK, make sure before posting that people in the pictures or videos are fine with them being shared and that the image rights or copyrights of others are not infringed upon before posting.

Beware of being directed to malicious websites

LINE is a tool to communicate with family and friends, but you may receive messages from people you don’t know depending on your settings. Do not respond if you are repeatedly added by people you don’t know or if you receive messages claiming that you won a prize or money that you don’t know about. In most cases, these are fraudulent attempts to obtain your personal information by means such as directing you to a counterfeit online luxury goods store. Also beware of phishing emails claiming to be from LINE. If you enter your password or other information on the websites they tell you to visit, your account may be hacked or used for fraudulent access to other websites.

Protect yourself with the reporting and blocking features

Some LINE users have reported crime threats and actual crimes. LINE is making its utmost effort to create an environment in which all users can safely communicate with people close to them. Immediately report it to LINE if any user threatens to harm you or makes invitations or demands suggestive of sexual exploitation. LINE offers the following features to combat such acts.
・Feature to report messages sent by unknown users
・Feature to reject messages from non-friends

Report to LINE immediately if you see posts that indicate the execution of a crime such as bombing and reckless driving.

Types of messages you should not respond to

Do not share your verification code

LINE has received reports of fake chats and emails claiming to be from LINE or users’ friends, with intent to hack LINE accounts. Specifically, there are cases where people pretending to be your friend tell you to buy prepaid cards at a nearby store to exploit you for money, as well as cases where they ask for your verification code (number sent by SMS) , and cases where they create an account pretending to be you and request money from your friends and family, causing secondary damages. Report it immediately if you receive such suspicious messages.

Report them to the police

If you see suicide threats or threats of self-harm in a chat, and if you feel that they are serious and urgent, please consider reporting them to the police.
